Looking after our hair and keeping it in top condition is a great way of making sure your hair grows healthy, and it means we can style it and wear it however we like while it looking fabulous ๐
Especially coming out of the winter months and into the spring, our hair will need extra moisture added to it from all the cold weather and central heating, which can be really damaging any drying for hair and skin.
First step – Make sure what you shampoo and condition your hair with is right for your hair, and its not just causing built up. Not moisturising your hair enough can cause your hair to not only feel dry but also break and snap ๐
There are so many products out there and trust me( and my 18 years of working in haircare), that so many products might say they are great for healthy shiny hair, but what your actually buying is a bottle of silicone ! ( silicone is a plastic which builds up on the hair and isn’t water soluble) so as you can guess it doesn’t wash out your hair, making your hair incredibly shiny with a plastic shine. This can then cause too much build up in the hair causing the hair to snap and split ( not helping with growing that long healthy hair we want lol ). There are lots of fantastic brands out there and I can’t name them all but make sure you read the ingredients when purchasing your products ( as a guide i usually find salon products only tend to be the best direction to head in as not mass produced for supermarkets )
A couple of shampoos and conditioners I have personally used on myself and my clients and will recommend are ‘Pureology’ and ‘Olaplex’ among many others.
Pureology have again many different products in there range, but I love the ‘strength cure’ range as this is fab for building elasticity in the hair preventing the hair from snapping and breaking off. They also have the strength cure in the condtioner as well, but to get a nice balance of protein and moisture I tend to recommend something a bit more moisturising on the mid lengths and ends. The ‘Pureology Hydrate’ conditioner is great for this, and even if you have fine hair if you keep it away from the root area ( which you should never put conditioner this high up due to your scalp producing natural sebum ). I find it really hydrating without weighing it down. All ‘Pureology’ products are sulphate free and colour protect so no need to worry about these problems.

As mentioned above the ‘Olapex’ shampoo and condtioner are also fantastic for rebuilding and repairing your hair to help keep your hair nice a strong and healthy. You may know ‘Olaplex’ is known worldwide for having this amazing stuff mixed into your colour when lightening your hair with hair colour – its absolutely amazing at preventing any damage caused in the lifting process! ( I could go into this further but won’t for now but its mega exciting but quite long)
Olaplex have again a range of products all of them being fab but if you really want to make difference, then you need to try the ‘Olaplex No.3’ treatment once a week. Unlike other conditioning treatments the ‘Olaplex No.3’ you apply before you wash your hair ( so remember this). You wet the hair down and then apply about a ยฃ1 -ยฃ2 sized of the treatment and work it through all your hair, you can leave this in your hair for 20 – 30 mins (or even sleep in if your like me lol). Then all you need to do is shampoo and condition as normal with your new chosen products and can blow dry and style your hair as normal. ‘Olaplex’ even have a leave in treatment NO.6 which is also lovely and moisturising, so you could also give this a try if you find your hair a little tangled when brushing it out.
Don’t forget before your blow dry and style your hair, to use a heat protector, as the heat from the hairdryer can by damaging. I love to use the ‘GHD’ protection spray which is great to use before using irons or styling wands etc which ill cover in ‘Styling Hair ” blog post for you .. ๐
